Wang Chuqin added the one major singles trophy that had eluded him, winning the ITTF Men’s World Cup Macao 2026 with a 4–3 victory over Japan’s teenager Sora Matsushima at Galaxy Arena on 5 April. The final went the full seven games: 9–11, 18–16, 11–8, 11–13, 8–11, 11–4, 11–8.

The second game told the story of the match — an 18–16 marathon Wang had to win to stay level. From there the world No. 1 traded blows with a 19-year-old playing without fear, before pulling clear in the deciding games.

The throne, at last

Wang has long sat at or near the top of the rankings and owns a World Championship singles title, but the World Cup crown had stayed out of reach. In Macao he closed the gap in his own résumé — and confirmed his status at the head of the men’s game heading into the World Team Championships and the LA28 cycle.
