Fan Zhendong’s European chapter is moving to its biggest stage. The Paris 2024 Olympic champion will join Borussia Düsseldorf for the 2026/27 season of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), the club confirmed in March, leaving 1. FC Saarbrücken after a single season. He is due to arrive in Düsseldorf on 1 July 2026.
Fan first signed for Saarbrücken in mid-2025, choosing the German league as the centre of a recalibrated career. The move to Düsseldorf — one of the Bundesliga’s most decorated clubs — reinforces that the league format, not the world tour, is now where the former world No. 1 wants his competitive table tennis.
A league career, by choice
