Table tennis has its road map to the next Olympics. In February the ITTF released the LA28 qualification system, confirming the sport will stage six medal events in Los Angeles — the most in its Olympic history and more than any other racket sport on the programme.
The line-up: men’s and women’s singles, the return of men’s and women’s doubles, mixed doubles, and — for the first time at the Games — a Mixed Team event. A total of 172 athletes, split evenly between men and women, will compete across 15 days, with play running 15–29 July 2028.
Why the early release matters
The ITTF confirmed the qualification systems earlier than in previous cycles, giving national federations and athletes extended runway to plan. With the new Mixed Team format adding a strategic layer — rewarding depth and versatility across a roster — the points chase effectively begins now, threading through every World Cup, team worlds and WTT event between here and Los Angeles.
